Having travelled to over 67 countries, our chef Luigi Carola brings with him a love of different cultures and flavours to the Continental kitchen.

The Wandering Chef

Luigi Carola was just 15 when he decided to leave home and travel the globe. It was a decision that would shape the young Italian into the passionate chef he is today. 

As Luigi explored the world, he soon acquired a love of the new tastes he was discovering flavours beyond Italy’s shores. As his growing appetite for international cuisines grew, he made another decision - one that would both fund his travels and allow him to embrace his newfound love of food. Luigi become a chef. 

The Journey Continues: 67 countries and counting 

Now one of our head chefs, Luigi has been busy in the Continental kitchens for the past 13 years. But he still has the same hunger for travel, having visited 67 countries and counting! 

His ‘wanderlust’ is a huge boost to his chef credentials – his knowledge of different cooking traditions and cultural specialties has helped to develop Luigi’s natural instinct for crafting recipes to fit the changing tastes in different countries.

He has a simple ambition; to provide a convenient and authentic way to make the food you love taste even better. With his sensitivity to regional palates, he’s the perfect chef to help create our new range of Continental Stock Pot – stock that tastes homemade but that comes ready to mix into your meals. 

Favourite Flavours

Though a born adventurer, little excites Luigi’s more than the beautiful local cuisine from his home in Naples. His favourite time of year is the festival season, when you’ll find him busy rustling up ‘spaghetti e vongole’ made from the freshest clams or rich tagliatelle, made with the finest ingredients. 

Despite all the travel, they say home’s where the heart is and so we’re delighted Luigi has chosen to settle with us at Continental. He brings to the table everything that he has discovered along the way. Whether exploring the world in search of new flavours, cooking for friends, or creating new Continental recipes, his genuine love for food and flavour makes him an exciting chef to have in the kitchen. 

Luigi’s Kitchen tips:

1. Add an extra Continental Stock Pot to vegetables, sauces, meat and poultry to intensify their flavour.

2. If you’re hungry and want to watch the big game, try preparing lots of tasty snacks like pizza, grilled vegetables and cold cuts – that way you can eat and not miss a moment of the action.
